Thursday Racing

The arrangements for Thursday racing are as follows, many thanks to Bill Ridlington (Race Officer) for his organisation.

Spring Series - 15 April to 1 July, missing 10 June because of Access Worlds

Summer Series - 15 July to 7 October, missing 12 August (likely prep. for Multiclass) and 9 Sept. when Bill is likely to be away.

That makes each Series 11 Thursdays, 22 races. Suggest 12 results to count for DIEHARDs ( i.e. experts who have raced in competitions, instructors etc), 8 to count for TRYHARDS (newcomers who have never raced in competitions).

Each race will be one or more laps round a short course planned to last about 30 minutes for the average finisher. The Race Officer will have discretion to retire and record DNF for any boat taking an excessive time to finish. Otherwise RYA racing rules will apply.

Scoring

First 1; Second 2; and so on.

DNF (i.e. crossed start line but failed to finish) scores number of starters in that race.

DNS (i.e. entered but did not cross start line) and DNC (not entered) score 22

It may be possible to have a staggered start, so that the DIEHARDS are given a Handicap. the TRYHARDS start a minute ahead, should make for some interesting racing, but that decision will be up to Bill.

Until the end of May we will give priority to the sailors who are training for the Access Worlds to sail their nominated boat, if the sailor is absent then the boat is available for anyone to use. Boats must be booked as early as possible on Thursdays to enable them to be allocated for the days races. The Access Committee are hoping that all the keen new folk who came to John Morley's excellent Rules Training will come and join in, all new sailors will be very welcome.
