Summary of Challenger Race Results for 2010 by Graham Hall
Rutland sailors have done rather well this year. These are the events and
results as far as can be recallad!
17-18th April - Burghfield : Graham Hall was the only RSC member but won all
six races! See write up on Y&Y web site if you're interested
8-9th May - Farmoor : Graham 1st, Val 2nd, Di came 2nd or 3rd in silver I
think.
22-23rd May - Lochaber, Fort William : Graham was the only RSC member, 1st
5-6th June - Grafham (English National) : Val 1st, Graham 2nd, also
attending; Tony Mayhew, Di, Paul Allen .... Tony had a couple of storming
races before the fluky winds and cold weather caught him out.
24-25th July - Llyn Brenig (Welsh national) : Graham 1st, Val 2nd, Di 1st in
silver.
13-14-15th Aug - Rutland (Multi-Class) : Challengers; Graham 1st, Val 4th,
also; Tony, Di, Mac Stowe, Paul Allen and Kate Mills.
In the Sunday (Champion of Champions event) Graham
4th, Val 7th ...... Access Liberty's beat us, not withstanding that they
were sailed well, there PY No was shown to be ludicrously high!
24-25-26th Sept - Rutland (UK National) : Val 1st,
Grham 3rd, also; Di and Paul
2-3rd Oct - Loch Earn : Graham was the only RSC member,
1st
9-10th Oct - Ogston Open : Val 1st Challenger and 10th
overall, Graham 12th, also Di and Roger Smedley.
In addition, Val and Graham competed in the Grafham
Grand Prix 28th Dec, Val 2nd and Graham 4th in the Slow handicap fleet. We
also were allowed to enter the Tiger Trophy for the first time and finished
very well considering the very light wind conditions.
Graham is the Rutland Overall Club Champion 2010, Val
is Dinghy Champion for the Sunday Club racing series.
Bear in mind that the Grafham GP, Tiger Trophy, Ogston
Open and Rutland Club Championship are competed against some of the best
Dinghy sailors in the country.
Lastly, Skud 18: Di and Graham have been sailing 'The
Flyer' in Club racing on Thursday nights also, the Access Worlds (Rutland)
and Sail for Gold (Weymouth). Val also competed at these events with Alex
Hovden ( RSC member but using his own boat). Simon Harle with Brian
McCandless was in 'The Craft' for the Access Worlds as was David Durston
with Peter from Wimbelball in his own boat.
The Access Worlds was a truly international event with
sailors from around the world, Sail for Gold however, was a world ranking
event for all Olympic and Paralympic classes, nearly 1000 competitors, over
200 Coaches, from over 50 Nations, and believed to be the largest event of
it's kind ever staged.
Because of the commitment in sailing the Skud (largely
due to RSC members and helpers),the RYA is funding George Barker as racing
coach to further improve our performance, with a view to Paralympic medals.
It's been quite busy this year and as you can see not
without a little success, although I've probably missed a few people and
events, I 've also not included the likes of Judi Figgures, Liz Eaton, Tony
Flinn, Alex Hovden and Allen Smith who although are RSC members and do sail
at Rutland regularly, tend to enter events under there other club names and
use there own boats whilst at Rutland.
